November Tips!

Alec’s Training Tip of the Month

"Consider being more aware of your reactions to your dog’s behavior.  For example, if your dog is flailing about and barking up a storm at feeding time, instead of putting their food down, simply wait until he calms down.  By doing so you have just taught your dog that calm behavior gets the food presented to him instead of his usual hyper activity.

The Downside of Dog Food

While nearly every dog owner goes to the supermarket to buy dog food for their pet and most are assured they are nutritionally balanced, commercial pet foods may not be in your dog’s best interest.  Like human ‘ready meals’, they can contain ingredients that shouldn’t have any place in the diet and they just aren’t as good for your dog as fresh food.

Why you should avoid dry food

Titan - Our Prodigal Son

While genetics might argue differently, if we accept that ‘Friends are the family we choose,’ clearly all our rescued, adopted critters are indeed family. Take the case of Titan.

As many of you know, our beautiful Titan was lost in early Spring of this year after he escaped from his adopter's yard.  New Leash On Life launched a major outreach to find him: We posted thousands of fliers, networked him online, called in Search and Rescue Dogs, placed cameras, feeding stations, watering holes, and people all over the areas where he was spotted.

September Tips!

Alec’s Training Tip of the Month

"Always remember to reward your dog, either verbally or physically (slow down on treats), for wanted and good behaviors. Even if your dog is just sitting quietly and chewing a bone in their doggie bed, recognize and reward this as a positive behavior. If our dogs don't know what we want them to do, they won't do it as much!"

Spaying and Neutering

If you are not sure about whether to spay or neuter your pet, please read the following information:

Misconceptions contribute to animal overpopulation.  Every hour in the United States, more than 2,000 dogs and 3,500 cats are born compared to 415 humans.  THERE ARE JUST NOT ENOUGH HOMES.

People give many reasons why they want to allow their dog to reproduce.
